TRE

Somatic Tension & Trauma Release

This somatic stress and tension release is suitable for all age groups and capabilities.  As an experienced holistic therapist with experience working with a variety of clients with various levels of fitness and injuries I can modify the practice to suit the individual.

I encourage clients to learn the TRE practice with me individually, or in a small group class.  After four to six sessions you can go on to continue practicing TRE alone and enjoying the many benefits this brings to your nervous system and overall health.

Benefits of practising TRE:

  • Less stress, anxiety and unresolved trauma, reduces symptoms of PTSD
  • Deeper relaxation and more restful sleep
  • Less physical pain, increase in flexibility and core stability
  • Improvement in symptoms of IBS
  • Calming to the nervous system
  • More energy and endurance
  • Less susceptible to occupational stress and vicarious trauma
  • Enhanced wellbeing and balance in body, mind and spirit

What is TRE?

Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

Created by David Berceli Ph.D, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system.  When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

While TRE began as a way to help those with PTSD, the practice has evolved to support a more traditional meditation practice and for athletes who use it for muscular recovery.  However most general practitioners use TRE to help with chronic stress, anxiety and sleep deregulation.

In modern life, particularly now, we can find ourselves in a state of chronic stress with our bodies locked in protective patterns, short, tight breathing, clenched jaws, tense muscles.  Tremoring can counterbalance that stress.
